Walks From Kenmore

With countless scenic walks in and around Kenmore, there’s no better place to stay than Mains of Taymouth.

Please note that although the majority of these walks are gentle and suitable for most abilities, the mountain walks are not. Ben More should only be tackled by competent hill walkers in good weather conditions. All distances given include the return journey and are approximate.

Kenmore Hill

An excellent waymarked circuit on and around Kenmore Hill. The hill has been planted with Scots pines and other native trees and offers superb views of Loch Tay and the mountains beyond.

Waymarked hill path across moorland, mostly clear to follow with a few muddy patches.

– Start –
Kenmore Hill woodland walks car park.

Acharn Falls

Starting in the village of Acharn, this very beautiful walk, short but steep, heads through a Victorian ‘Hermit’s Cave’ to view the dramatic Falls of Acharn. The walk makes a loop around a lovely gorge, but also includes a detour to a stone circle with great views over Loch Tay.

– Terrain –
Good tracks and paths; care is needed near the edges of the gorge if the path is left. A fair amount of up and down is involved; this can be halved if omitting the detour to the stone circle.

Drummond Hill

Explore the mature beech woodland on the slopes of Drummond Hill. Zigzag steadily up through the beech and larch forest to Black Rock viewpoint for stunning views over Loch Tay.

– Terrain –
Wide, uneven gravel surface throughout. Long moderate slopes for up to a mile with some fairly steep sections.

Birks of Aberfeldy

This beautiful short walk is deservedly popular. Celebrated in a poem by Robert Burns, the fine walk up the steep gorge of the Moness burn reveals several waterfalls.

– Terrain –
Excellent waymarked path; a good amount of up and downhill. The walk passes above steep drops but there are handrails for much of the route.

Weem Rock

A short, steep climb to St David’s Well and a series of carvings in the crags and trees that were inspired by the forest’s stories

– Terrain –
Uneven gravel surface with some rough and narrow rocky sections. Some long steep slopes with several flights of rocky steps.
